A tiny audio drama by Tortuga (2017)

Let’s try to sketch the hydrofemme: a figure of many layers and stories, who travels the oceans and worries, gains and bargains. Along the main trade route she offers bits and pieces about herself.
This tiny audio drama was recorded in summer 2016 as part of the radio operetta „WIDOW RADIO CHING – The Hydrofemme in Four Acts“ and was republished in February 2017.

In this performance Adina F. Camhy expresses a feminist-marxist criticism of the Frankfurt kitchen. Considered the forerunner of modern fitted kitchens, the Frankfurt kitchen was designed to keep distances short and rational.

TRADING STORIES – A CARGO NAMED DESIRE
Short movie by Jennifer Mattes (2015) 45 min. – Original version with English subtitles.

Trading Stories tells one story, or several, about telling stories and about love. It does not tell a love story, though. Based on the journey of the director’s grandfather from Hamburg to Qingdao in 1905, she begins looking for his tracks on a cargo ship. Her journey leads from Hamburg through Antwerp to the Suez Canal, Sri Lanka and Singapore, all the way to Qingdao in China – today an important trade route. In a collage of documentary footage of the journey, found footage from the internet and other films, mixed with texts from every possible source including her own texts, the film discusses a constant in-between of possibilities and impossibilities of sensation and attraction, all in context of global markets.
